You tell me you are the brighter one
And I claim to be the smarter one
Its ok, I know I’m a shade darker
So, fair; I agree you are indeed brighter

See how you’ve taught my mind wit?
How in just a single sitting you so much impressed me?
Could two minds by such a motley whirl of chance meet?
And so closely soon find their lives so closely knit

You impress me so much my friend
And friends from 1st to last I hope we remain
For if you could teach my mind wit in such a short stint
Could my mind conceive the things you’d teach it if we so remain?

If I could take an hour and with it my rest of my life build
I’d take one spent with you and my life thus seed
And each replicated minute I’d forever happily reap
New wonderful moments like ones before spent together

See the lofty leaps my mind makes when my inhibitions lift
Grafting grand thoughts when of you I think?
Were I as impressive with these papers and ink
Our friendship I’d once again with relish here re-live

With spontaneity of a master improv on stage
Owning the stage then your mind so would our story captivate
Bringing every subtle nuance to life for all to read
It’d be beyond a story, beyond a play and beyond poetry

But brevity is the soul of wit
Our mutual friend Shakespeare did teach
And I maintaining to be smarter one still
His words I heed and this poem here trim

But one last thing my friend I ask
You being the brighter one!
And I like a planting in the dark bending towards your light
That you always keep your light shining on our friendship

NEW BORDERS

The air smells different
The wind blows lazily
The streets are unfamiliar
No one smiles easily

I’ve journeyed long to be here
Leaping to meet the future
My shadow is my best pal
With me even on the moonlight

The nights are long and lonesome
So I hug tightly on my pillow
Wake up to a pen and paper
And try and mark my new borders

Will these streets love me?
Will these new faces smile at me?
Or will they say I’m too different?
And shut their doors to my face

I’m here with a plain canvas
What they show me I’ll colour
And once I get a clear picture
I’ll know if I’ll stay or pack up.

KEEP MOVING

Straight ahead I march
Holding it together like a leader of a marching band
Moving forward
Subduing thoughts of what I’ve left behind

Its time for myself
So I must push back the doubts that plague my mind
Think not of the bridges that have fallen
But think of the new ones I’ll put up as I move forward

I can’t look back
The rift has widened like a gulf where bridges were
But while the clock is still ticking
While I’m still alive and breathing
And my blood hot in my veins flowin
I must keep moving
Keep moving like a leader of a drive parade

Going To Meet Her

When I’m ready for her
Will be she be ready for me?
Now that I plan to go to her
Does she feel any longing for me?

I am packed ready for the journey
Ready to go and speak from my heart
I’ll not bore her with a memorized story
Stories a thousand and one she must have heard

I’m not the first she must have captivated
With the pull of her big heart that’s equal to none
But freely I go to her requiring not to be persuaded
Hoping that her yet unspoken promise will be uttered to me

When the words will be spoken I will be ready and near
Lifting each syllable like a precious piece of a jigsaw puzzle
Then I’ll know what’s in her heart
And I will speak and what’s taking me to her she’ll know

It might be tomorrow or the day after
Maybe a month from now or maybe at New Year
Confidently I’ll go to her with a list in my mind
I will lay my ask and hopefully it’ll be met with a smile.

Two Lifetimes once

When it hurts me
It also hurts you
cos part of me
Truly belongs to you
My heart beats in me
But I’m alive in you

Your soul enjoined with mine
And mine too with thine

I do not know
How we got so entwined
But I do know
Being so we life twice once
And living so
We live a fuller life
Living tw lifetimes once.

Comfort I do not seek

Oh warm clasping hands of comfort
Holding me clos under your wings
Shielding me from elements I’d readily confront
Free me from your grasp and let me be

Haven’t I fought and won my battles before
Albeit with the discomfort of having my knuckles bruised
Then, I needed you not and neither do I now
Flee from me you cannot contain my stirred spirit

What could you do for me that I couldn’t do for myself?
Except turn me into a slob for a few hours of thy comfort
I scoff at your comfort; I’ll not fall for your wiles
Haven’t you checked, are you blind, cant you see I write my own script!

I seek not thy comfort
Let me eat the coals in the end I’ll make diamonds
Let the harsh elements rub against me
And smoothen up my rough edges

And when it’s all done
I’ll create my own comfort
Farthest from your hands
But now, away! Thy comfort I do not need

FORGET YESTERDAY

Forget yesterday
Forget the scars and the injuries
It’s a new day
A new light shines Brightly

The pain goes away here
You shall know no more tears
Give me all your fear
And no more pain shall you bear

I’m right here with you
I’m never going away
When you turn left I’ll turn with you
Be with you every step of the way

And let’s colour something new

Take this heart of mine
And take care of it
This heart is all that’s mine

It’s not perfect I know
But it’s the nearest perfect you’ll ever come acros
The preciousest you’ll ever hold
If you doubt that then I doubt this heart I should let you hold

Take my heart, take it all
I’m not holding anything back
To love I will with all I’ve got
Even through the hurts I’ll emerge again to love

Be most gentle with this heart
You see the lines, it’s been broken before
Torn apart and the blood let to run
Of course it hurt like mad so again I ask be gentle

Now that it’s mended, healed again and whole
Filled to the brim with love & refueled with hope
This precious heart of mine opens out to you
To hold you close in the warmest embrace

Spend time with it, draw closer
Don’t be far from it, be near and of it discover
Test it, try it; but love always it

Sometimes the sun doesn’t shine
Sometimes the moon goes away to hide
Sometimes the star are hid behind the cloud
Sometimes I wonder if I’m strong enough

These times I search for new light
These times I’m dying to hear the right words
These times your encouragement is my only hope
These times I look for one to hinge my trust on

Finding rest under your shadow
Safety and protection under your shadow
Renewed and strengthened under your shadow
And my confidence is restored under your shad

So through the gloomiest of days
Through the darkest, moonless and starless nights
Through the coldest longest days
I find warmth that restores my being
